Welcome to the Louisville Dulcimer Society website
The Louisville Dulcimer Society is dedicated to sharing music and friendship and promoting traditional, American, mountain, and Celtic music.
Every year we sponsor the Ohio Valley Gathering. Thanks to all who attended this years event. See you all in Indianapolis in March 2011.
You can watch a video of this great event (2010 slide show pending).  You do not want to miss this.

Beginning Classes Coming in March!

Starting on Tuesday, March 16th [note date change], we will begin a series of mountain (lap) dulcimers lessons for the beginner or novice player. These classes are free for members, but you can join that evening if you wish. Each class will be conducted by a different instructor so that you can get familiar with the ways that different people play. The first instructor will be Maureen Sellers and we will use her instruction book which can be bought at the first class. Contact Todd Nielsen at 502-241-6079 to sign up for class or if you would like to volunteer to teach or be an assistant.

We're not just for dulcimer players anymore.

The Louisville Dulcimer Society invites players of any instrument (and at any level) that you don't have to plug in to participate in our jams and events. We have mountain (lap) dulcimer, hammer dulcimer, pennywhistle, autoharp, mandolin, guitar, harmonica, and even washtub bass players.

Meetings and Jams every week!

Regular practices and jam sessions are held every Tuesday, 7:30 p.m., at St Paul's Episcopal Church; 4700 Lowe Rd, Louisville KY 40220. This is about one block north of Taylorsville Road (between Hurstbourne Pkwy. and Breckenridge Lane).
The first and third Tuesdays are "fast jams," and the second and fourth Tuesdays are "slow jams." The fifth Tuesday of the month is a special "sing-a-long" night, although you can certainly play your acoustic musical instruments as well.

Can't make it on Tuesday evenings? We meet on the fourth Sunday of the month also, just so you can participate!

Our monthly general meetings include a short business meeting, refreshments, jam sessions, and may include concerts and workshops by visiting performers or LDS members. The general meeting usually takes place on the fourth Sunday of each month at 4:00 p.m. The location varies (but is usually at St. Paul's as well) and is announced in the monthly newsletter. Visitors are welcome.
Visitors welcome, but why not become a member?
It's only $15 per year for your entire family. With each membership you receive the following benefits:
  • A monthly newsletter containing news and dulcimer music [the e-mail version usually contains an audio file of the music]
  • One binder containing many of our most played songs
  • One official LDS name tag (upon request)
  • Club CD of folk music
  • Free admission to the Ohio Valley Gathering
  • Learning, performing and new friendship opportunities.
  •

NOTE: The Louisville Dulcimer Society membership runs on a fiscal year (July 1 to June 30). The $15 rate is effective to June 30, 2010 only. Beginning with the 2010-2011 fiscal year, the rate will increase to $20. If you join the society after April 1, 2010, your rate will be $20, but your membership will be extended to June 30, 2011.

If you would like to become a member of the Louisville Dulcimer Society, print out and complete this form, and mail it along with a check for $15 to:
    P.O. Box 206376
    Louisville, KY 40250-6376

You can also join at any of the meetings.
If you want the items mailed, there is an additional $5 fee to cover shipping. [Note: only the music, not the binder itself, is included if mailed.]
