FAQ
If you have a question not in the list below, please contact webmaster Larry West (Larry West at hotmail.com) to get your question added to the list.

A:  If coming from outside of Louisville, the easiest way is to take Interstate 64 to the Hurstboune Parkway exit (exit 15), then go south about ¾ mile to Taylorsville Road. Turn right [west] on Taylorsville Road another ¾ mile to Lowe Road. Turn right again on Lowe Road one block and you will see St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on the left. We meet in the lower level – there is an entrance on the north side of the building.

A: Yes. We try to make it really easy for you. First of all, for most of our songs, we provide free sheet music if you are a member. Even if you can’t read music, each song has the fret number that is supposed to be played for each note. Also, almost all of the songs we play are in the key of “D” to make it even easier. Chances are, if you can count to 11 or 12, you shouldn’t have any problems. Occasionally, we offer beginner classes, or you can find a teacher on your own and/or go to one of the many dulcimer conventions, such as the Ohio Valley Gathering, that offer beginning level classes.

A: There are several places in Louisville where you can purchase a dulcimer. We recommend that you “try out” several dulcimers before you purchase your dulcimer, although there is no rule that says you can’t own more than one. One place some people recommend is Stielberg’s String Instruments, (http://www.stringinstruments.com/c-40-lap-dulcimers.aspx), located at 4029 Bardstown Road in Beuchel.

A: If you have a request for a tab to add, please contact Carolyn Browning for more information at cbrown5483@aol.com or 502-456-9390. Remember that we cannot add any music that is under copyright without the copyright owner’s permission.

A: The newsletter is one of the perqs of joining the Society. Each issue usually contains an article submitted by one of the greats in the dulcimer world, and some of the items submitted are copyrighted and cannot be duplicated on another medium. Same is true for some of the music published in the newsletter. We do try to put most of the rest of the items on the website. We will not knowingly violate any copyright laws and will remove copyrighted items when notified.

A: Newsletter editor Teri West is always looking for great things to include in the newsletter. Just e-mail your information to awaa1134@aol.com and she will consider adding your item to the newsletter. Again, remember that we cannot add anything that is under copyright without the copyright owner’s permission.
